Accuracy and precision in measurement are necessary to ensure that clothing is not ruined throughout the altering process. In addition to stitching clothing by hand, tailors also use stitching machines to create clothes and perform alterations. Alterations can be made to any part of the garment. They can work with a vast array of embellishments, including beads and buttons, as well as a wide variety of textiles, including knit and leather. Moreover, they work with needles, thread, and other small materials such as buttons; as a result, they need to have good vision and be dexterous with their hands.

Creativity, excellent color perception, and a keen sense of style are all necessary components in producing garments tailored to the wearer and fashionable. o be able to properly and compassionately advise customers on the type and fit of garments, tailors need to have great verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities and Duties

● Discusses with the client to ascertain the preferred type of fabric and cut of the garment.

● After positioning the design of the garment pieces on the cloth, cut the fabric along the pattern’s outlines using scissors.



● Using a tape measure measures the consumer to determine their size and note the information.

● Creates a bespoke pattern from scratch or modifies an existing pattern based on the customer’s measurements.

● To complete the outfit, buttons and buttonholes are sewn on.

● Press the clothing, either by hand or by pressing machine.

● Develops clothing design, modifies existing design for garment, or duplicates existing design for the garment.

● Makes alterations to the clothing and unites the components using a needle and thread or a sewing machine to create the finished garment.
